Music In The Mountains - Free Brass Concert At Three Springs Plaza
Durango, Colo., July 2, 2008 – With the growing number of new residents at Three Springs combined with the large group of people working at Mercy Regional Medical Center and other nearby retail businesses, Music in the Mountains has scheduled a free concert for the neighborhood Monday, July 21 at noon. The High Noon Brass concert will feature rousing music performed by three trombone players and a tuba player who are part of the Festival Orchestra.
“We are so pleased to bring this fun summertime program to a new audience,” says Susan Lander, executive director of Music in the Mountains. “Three Springs offers a great venue for this kind of event.”
Concertgoers are invited to bring their own lunch to this free High Noon Brass Concert or purchase lunch at Three Springs Plaza. Norton’s Catering will provide a catered lunch for a suggested donation of $10 each, available as long as supplies last. All proceeds from Norton’s lunch will benefit the Music in the Mountains Goes to School program.
Now in its ninth year, the Goes to School program strives to search out eager young musicians and nurture their development not only as performers but as audience members as well. It’s designed to meet the needs of students ages four through 18, along with their music teachers, through a wide array of offerings, including hands-on music instruction; teacher in-service workshops; “Taste of Music” instrument demonstration concerts at Fort Lewis College; in-school concerts and assemblies; and free tickets for program participants to Festival Chamber and Conservatory concerts. This year more than 7,000 students from Bayfield, Cortez, Dolores, Durango, Ignacio, Mancos and Silverton took part in some aspect of the program.
“Three Springs is thrilled to team up with the Festival to present a Music on Mercado summer concert,” said Tim Zink, spokesperson for Three Springs. “This is our first coordination with Music in the Mountains, and we’re expecting a great turnout.”
Three Springs Plaza, where the concerts will be held, can be reached by taking Highway 160 east to Three Springs Boulevard, proceeding to the second roundabout and following event signs to the outdoor location. Neighbors and visitors are asked to please leave their dogs at home to maximize enjoyment for all concertgoers.
